Turtles Can Fly, Hurt to Watch - Chris Prowant

So far Turtles Can Fly, was the first film to watch in class to actually make me sick to my stomach. Now when it comes to things like plot, characters, and filming the film was great. I really did enjoy the film its just a couple things in it were so disturbing it hurt.
The main thing I watched that disturbed me was the relationship between Agrin and the blind little boy. She did not want anything to do with the child and kept saying things like its not heres and that she wants to leave the boy behind. And this hurt because all I could think was, was that is your child, WHY don't you love him. She even in the end left him tied to a rock which then lead to him being caught in a mine field. Risking her child's life and not showing him love I thought was completely unacceptable. Yes she was I believe raped and that's how the child came to be, but regardless, its only a child and its not the Childs fault. It can even be argued that the child didn't show her love, where in many scenes it is shown, for example: When they would sleep together or even when she would try to hug the child. My only argument against this, is the fact that she never showed the child love to begin with, so how was the child supposed to know how to love in return. So again I personally was disturbed after watching such a neglectful mother.
The Diasporic situations that arise in this film are shown with the two different villages in the same village. You have the Village satellite is in, which seems to be more privileged IE. they have houses and televisions. While Agrins village is much more just tents and dirt. So what it seems like the Director is trying to show is that even through all of these changes the people still have their own personal problems and that these Splitting and molding of two different societies can have a detrimental effect on its people.
