saving face

This was a good documentary.  First off as discussed in class and mentioned by I believe her name was Laura, there are many parallels to draw from America's rape epidemic.  The husbands who mutilated their wives' faces and bodies reminded me of men here in America who had been charged with various forms of rape.  Almost "To Catch a Predator" like, how their excuses were so elaborate.  It sucks that when woman want to stand up for themselves they are physically abused to the point of deformation.  In a culture where woman are subservient to men and are literally considered to be property, it shouldn't really surprise anyone, but it should definitely make you angry.

These films and documentaries make me feel like a crappy person just for being male.  But then comes along this plastic surgeon.  Being a biology major I've toyed with the idea of going to med school and I've always liked the idea of being a plastic surgeon.  While I know now that I want to go into Zoology, and work with animals, this guy reminded me of why I ever thought about it in the first place.  I really liked his demeanor.  One of the girls in the class complained about him talking about his love for doing breast augmentations; I found this to be a little obtuse.  It's natural for a man to enjoy breasts... it's very basic evolutionary biology.  Moreover, if a woman feels that having larger or more symmetrical breasts is going to make her feel better about herself that's her deal, if someone can help her achieve that then hell go for it.

So once again we watch a movie showing the atrocities that plague parts of the world.  Let's face it these things and worse happen everyday, everywhere.  If you don't live under a rock or turn a blind eye to the evil in society you've already known this.  It was nice to see some proactive steps to the reformation of ass backward practices.

I'll write another blog when I find the reading.
