Billy Grandizio- Response to "Turtles Can Fly"

The children in Turtles Can Fly are directly affected by diaspora. They are all orphan children who were forced to relocate and come together, and I would assume that many if not all of their parents died as a result of war and violence. Viewing these films has really given me a sense of thankfulness. I am thankful that I can walk or go wherever I want to go, without having to worry about losing a limb from a land mine. I do not have to worry about relocating due to war, or have to be scared that I could lose my home at any moment. It is sad that the people in the film had to deal with these scenarios daily, and also the people who are living in those countries today! We as Americans take our way of living for granted. One thing that struck me in the movie was the fact that Agrin was the only girl I ever saw in the whole entire village. Where were the other women? I am not an expert on the customs and traditions in those countries. Could it be that women were not allowed to be there? I am not sure, but it certainly made me think. This movie was my favorite so far. I love how the movie revolved around the kids, and the way that they handled diaspora and really came together to form their own community! They did not depend on adults for anything really, and they made it work for them.
