No matter where you go, tourist destinations throughout the world tend to highlight the positive aspects of an area and not enough information is shared of the poverty that resides close by. Even as close in proximity as Philadelphia, visitors come predominately come for downtown or sporting attractions, and not to hear or see the nitty grittiness of the city. However, we're still able to turn on the news and witness the crime and economic hardships that certain areas of our country are living with. Crossing the US border, it's an entire different story because we are not informed of all external affairs we are involved in unless we seek this information ourselves.

It's really messed up that countries like Jamaica are not able to progress because powerful bullies such as the US can control and operate their own resources! It's almost as if the world revolves from us all taking and receiving from one another, yet no one can truly work there way up and succeed. "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer," is a statement that comes to mind and despite the belief of some it has appeared to be valid for the most part. Dominant countries like ourselves make it hard for nations to seek complete independence from us and vice versa due to the benefits we get from our control. Any chance of another group gaining power would essentially result in our own losses, which is unacceptable in the eyes of many and not worth equality across the board.

  1. It is certainly true that the 'rich get richer while the poor get poorer' when there is a system set up only to benefit countries that already wield a terrifying amount of economic power. The US and other countries are still holding a monopoly over the global economy that is destroying countries and sadly many US citizens do not know of this act of neo-colonialism.
